So there we were, my father and I, in the forest cutting some wood for the fire and fixing the stove.

We would each take our turn with those tasks.

As I was cutting and splitting logs, a familiar shooting-like sensation started taking over my back.

I ignored it and yielded the ax with greater force…

Again and again until the pain washed over me and my upper body abandoned me…

My hands literally froze!

My shoulders, my fingers, my grip had all frozen…

The ax slipped and fled off in the distance.

Next thing I hear is a blood-curdling scream coming from just a few feet across me.

I turned around to face my father who I thought was sitting beside me fixing the stove...

And he wasn’t there.

He was just a few inches away from me , lying on the ground, covered in blood.

It took a few seconds, which felt like an eternity in hell, before I could gain back control of my body…

I grabbed him, put him in the car and rushed him to the hospital as fast as I could.

There I was, a cripple who had severely hurt his dad, because he wasn’t even able to chop some wood.

It was truly devastating...

The doctors told me that the deep wound in his left leg had luckily missed all the major arteries… otherwise I honestly don’t know how I could’ve lived with myself.

So imagine my shame and horror when my family found out about my woodchopping accident where I almost struck my own father to death because of my joint issues...

I was already sunk in depression and I wouldn’t leave the house for weeks after the incident... even my father was trying to convince me that “it could happen to anyone,” just to get me out of bed and to go on with my life.

One morning I heard my bedroom door bang open against the wall and there he was, my father, with my luggage in his hand, telling me to get up and get going.

“Where?” I asked

“To my brother,” he said.

“He’s going to do something about those joints even if it’s the last thing he does.”

I knew my uncle moved back to the Navajo reservation a few years before and I hadn’t seen him since.

My uncle was part of a long line of respected Navajo hunters-gatherers.

People in his community said he could survive in the wild for weeks on his own, climb trees, mountains with ease and hunt down his food even in the most difficult and dangerous regions.

He was the one that taught my father everything he knew about surviving in the wilderness and I had great respect for both of them…

If he insisted on seeing me after the accident, I could only imagine how disappointed and angry he was.

Now… even though I respected my uncle and I knew he was well known in his community for his extraordinary physical abilities…

I just couldn’t see how a month with him would help me restore my mobility.

But I was feeling so guilty about striking my father with that ax, that I just smiled and nodded and told my uncle I couldn’t wait to get started.

So the next morning, my uncle woke me up and told me everything was set up for me.

I went outside and all I found was a glass full of a strange liquid that he made for me.

That gave me enough motivation to keep to the routine for the full month.

Molds live everywhere.

On soil, water, air, plants and even on dead or decaying matter.

According to the US Environmental Protection Agency they can also grow and live unbothered inside buildings and can be found in wood, paper, carpets, insulation, the ceilings, roofs and windows.

But this is something that no one talks about, right?

And yet a group of ten scientists released this study in the journal Brain, Behavior and Immunity confirming that we inhale these tiny molds and it is through our lungs they plague our joints and muscles, causing severe damage.

Once they affect our cartilage tissues, our joints are irritated, resulting in an inflammatory process, warning our body that something is wrong.

This results in swelling, excess pain, redness and inability to move properly.

The symptoms vary depending on the level of the mold exposure and how deep the damage is.
